About Us
Hello, and welcome to Worldwide Audio Supplies, the main site for beginners and home studio owners to gain knowledge, tips, tricks and techniques about all aspects of sound production. We also provide information about gear to buy and where to get it from at the best prices.
The site has been set up by Steampunk Sound, a Sound Design company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Its main focus in on teaching and training people just starting out that can’t go to sound school due to life commitments, but who want to learn about sound production in order to help with their own recordings.
Steampunk Sound is owned by Colin Fox who has 8 years experience in live sound reinforcement, location recording and, more recently, sound design.
Colin started his career working with local bands, in many different genres, but mainly folk music. This led him to being involved with the Green Man Festival in Wales.
Having always been interested in sound effects from seeing films like Star Wars and Apocalypse Now (like so many others of his generation), he wanted to be more involved creatively. This led him to working on independent student films and animations. His interest in sound design follows the Steampunk mantra of using industrial and household objects to create his own brand of ringtones. He also provides sound effects to agencies and can still be used for any project requiring his expertise. His skills and interests are still in location recording but Foley and in particular, procedural audio sound design, now take precedence.
He has an HND in Sound Production from Adam Smith College Centre for Creative Industries, a BSc Hons in Audio Technology and Multimedia from Glasgow Caledonian University and an MSc in Sound Design from the University of Edinburgh. He is also a registered Pro Tools user.
On these courses he learned about sound recording, mic placement, advanced studio techniques, live sound reinforcement, working in the creative industries, website design, video editing, MIDI programming, computer programming, surround sound and much more. He mainly uses Pro Tools and Max/Msp for sound design but also implements Logic Pro and Pure Data.
On the other pages of this site, you will find the equipment pages, a glossary and helpful sound production articles. There is also a mailing list (join the community) which will keep you up to date on new products, product discount sales and when a new article is added. A monthly newsletter is planned which will have audio industry news and interviews for beginners and sound professionals alike. This should be happening in the Summer of 20011. Of course we respect your privacy and you will only receive information from Worldwide Audio. The form only asks for name and email address.
If you want to contact Colin regarding work, for more information or you have an idea for an article, send an email to:

and he will try to respond within three working days.
